The course syllabus
Week 1 – Introduction to the World of Videography
Overview of the stages of video production: pre-production, shooting, and post-production. Differences between film and online content creation.
Week 2 – Camera Types and How They Work
Comparison of DSLR, mirrorless, and professional video cameras. Sensor sizes, resolution, and frame rates explained.
Week 3 – Lenses and Field of View
Focal length, aperture, and depth of field. Characteristics of prime and zoom lenses. Choosing the right lens for each type of shot.
Week 4 – Exposure: Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO
Understanding how the three exposure settings affect the image. Using manual settings for creative control.
Week 5 – Focus and Sharpness
Autofocus systems, manual focus techniques. Focal plane, focus pulling, and sharpness planning.
Week 6 – Composition and Camera Setup
Framing, rule of thirds, golden ratio. Camera angles, shots, and movements (pan, tilt, dolly, etc.).
Week 7 – Basics of Lighting
Natural vs. artificial light. Three-point lighting: key, fill, and backlight. Color temperature and white balance.
Week 8 – Fundamentals of Audio Recording
Types of microphones (shotgun, lavalier, boom). Audio recorders and basic noise management. Syncing audio and video.
Week 9 – Shooting Practice (Outdoor Location)
Recording a short scene in small groups. Practicing camera positions and shot planning.
Week 10 – Shooting Practice (Indoor with Lighting)
Working with artificial lighting. Recording an interview or dialogue scene.
Week 11 – Video Formats, File Management, and Backup
Codecs and file types (MOV, MP4, ProRes, etc.). Organizing and backing up footage.
Week 12 – Editing Basics (Adobe Premiere Pro / DaVinci Resolve)
Introduction to the editing software interface. Basic editing: importing, cutting, rearranging, audio syncing.
Week 13 – Color Grading, Effects, and Titles
Basic color correction, using LUTs. Adding titles, transitions, and simple visual effects.
Week 14 – Final Project Presentation and Evaluation
Screening of student short films. Group critique and feedback focusing on technical implementation.
Assessment method: project work (exam presentation)
